Torrox Costa is one of the only two towns along the coast of Axarquia. It has high rise residential blocks along its central coastal extension. This is accompanied by two impressive maritime promenades with irresistible restaurants and bars; and 9 kilometers of wide sandy beaches. Both sides of the main area are having more rural low rise buildings and bamboo barricaded beaches. El Morche, located on the coast of western Torrox Costa, is a small unpolluted sea-side village. And to the east of the main town, alongside the lighthouse, is the newly constructed ‘Balcon de Torrox’ as a watch on the sea and headlands having transparent flooring and pointing down on Roman remains described below.
Phoenician remains on the coast are evidences to prove the long history of settlement in the area but Torrox also formed an important industrial town during the Roman age, from which much ruins were conserved on the coast beside the lighthouse.
